Congress acted--but the card companies are pushing back. Last week the U.S. House passed a bill to stop rate increases on your existing balance by December 1. This bipartisan proposal may be referred straight to the Senate floor for a vote any day.
If you are outraged by the continuing rate increases, new fees, and higher payments to your credit card companies--take two minutes to call your Senators. It's free!

You helped pass the hugely popular Credit CARD Act last spring--a bill to give you protection against rate increases on your balance. But the new rules don't go into effect until February. Meanwhile, the card companies have implemented new fees, jacked up rates and changed fixed interest rates to variable. Enough is enough!
Here are some points you might want to make in your call (if you can, call both of your Senators' offices - they have people to take your call).
- I am a constituent of the Senator’s, and I want him/her to commit to supporting S. 1833, the Expedited CARD Reform for Consumers Act of 2009, so we can start getting the protections Congress already approved at a time we need them the most.
- This bill will give me protection against rate increases on my existing balance before the holiday shopping season.
- If American consumers are truly the backbone of our economy, then it's time we got the same priority and help when it comes to our finances as the giant banks received.
